Introducing Callum Edward

At 4:16 AM on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 Callum Edward was introduced to the world after being in the womb for 27 weeks. Callum is doing as well as he can considering the fact that he was only in the womb for 27 weeks. The labor started at around 6:30 PM on Monday, December 15, 2008 but he was not born until 4:16 AM on December 16. Callum was not able to be held because he is so small and fragile right now because his fat tissue has not fully developed and his blood vessels are not fully developed either, but my step sister was able to stick her hands in the incubator and hold Callum's hands and talk to him for a bit before the doctors took him to the neo natal ward in the children's hospital. The doctors there have said Callum's respirations are at 44 (which is really good) and is only using the respirator to do fifty percent of his breathing. Things are looking positive for now and I am praying that they continue to stay positive.

Callum weighed in at two pounds, four onces and has black hair. His entire head was covered in hair and I expect the hair to be much fuller by the time his original due date gets here. The doctors currently have his eyes covered so that the blood vessels can continue to develop but they seem to be very pleased with how he is doing for being three months pre mature. Thank you to everyone that has been keeping him, my step sister, and the rest of my family in your thoughts and prayers. I hope that all of you will continue to do so as these next few months are going to be a long journey for us all.
